Jiddu Krishnamurti in Dialogue with Buddhist Scholars (1979)

Posted 1 day ago

A poor man asked the Buddha:

“Why am I so poor?”

The Buddha said, “You haven’t learned to give.”

So the poor man said, “What can I give, when I don’t have anything?”

Buddha said: “You have a few very valuable things:

The face, which can give a smile;

The mouth: which can praise or comfort others;

The heart: which can open up to others;

The eyes: which can look the others with goodness;

The body: which can be used to help others.”

The real poverty is the poverty of spirit.

mahayanalotus:

People are afraid that if they let go of their anger and righteousness and wrath, and look at their own feelings—and even see the good in a bad person—they’re going to lose the energy they need to do something about the problem. But actually you get more strength and energy by operating from a place of love and concern. You can be just as tough, but more effectively tough.

One’s relationship with another is based on memory, on the various images, pictures, conclusions I have drawn about you and you have drawn about me. Various images that I have about you - wife, husband, mother, son, friend and so on. Every action, word, incident creates an image - pleasant or not pleasant. The whole relationship is based on a variety of this subtle images. And when I have my images and you have your images, there is division, separation - and the whole conflict begins. Where there’s division between two images, there must be conflict.
And on a big scale - between nations, races, religions, political groups - it’s exactly the same process.

I am quite confident that the message of Jesus was very similar. Happy Easter, everyone! Don’t let his sacrifice be in vain.
